U.S. News & World Report has released its new 2023 Best Law Schools list, ranking the University of Washington 49 out of 192 peer institutions. This makes UW Law the top ranked law school in the Pacific Northwest.

The following are the UW Law specialty programs ranked in the top 35 that were available under embargo to institutions before the full rankings were published:

  • Clinical training: 35
  • Criminal Law: 32
  • Environmental Law: 31
  • Intellectual Property: 28
  • Tax Law: 34

“While we are proud of these achievements, rankings are only one measure of our law school’s success in educating thriving, effective, compassionate lawyers,” said Elizabeth Porter, Interim Toni Rembe Dean and UW professor of law. “Our community has been resilient and unwavering in their commitment to ensuring students receive a world-class legal education in the midst of the pandemic.”

U.S. News considered numerous measures of quality collected from ABA-accredited U.S. law schools between fall 2021 and early 2022. Full rankings and more information regarding the publication’s methodology can be found at usnews.com/grad.

“These rankings are a snapshot that reflect one of the most difficult points of the pandemic for our law school community,” Porter said. “I am proud of the resilience and dedication our students demonstrated during that unprecedented period in our lives. I am grateful that things are improving – from infection rates to employment outlook.”

“Thank you to our faculty, staff, friends and colleagues in the legal community for rallying behind our students during this difficult period, Porter said. “Without you, our students and recent alumni could not have been successful.”
