Register Now: Professional Mediation Skills Training

UW School of Law will host a mediation skills training course over five days in late September and early October. This course, sponsored by UW Law’s Clinical Law Program, will focus on collaborative, facilitative, interest-based mediation. All sessions will be held in-person at the UW School of Law.

Participants will learn the extremely challenging practice of mediating with parties in joint session, face-to-face, strategically using caucuses where effective. The mediation process you will study aims to offer substantive, procedural and psychological satisfaction to all parties.

Through a mix of theory and practice, participants will learn the skills, tools and processes used by mediators to assist parties in conflict to find mutually agreeable solutions. We will examine each stage of the mediation process and participants will engage in simulated mediations drawn from a range of settings.

To enhance learning, coaches will observe participants' roleplay mediations, provide individualized feedback and facilitate debrief sessions. All attendees will be challenged to become more self-aware and to develop new skills to provide better mediation services to clients.
