Michael McCann Recognized by ABF Fellows and Law & Society Foundation

Michael McCann, professor emeritus in the Department of Political Science and an adjunct professor of law, has received the 2024 American Bar Foundation Fellows Outstanding Scholar Award. The award is "in recognition of outstanding research, mentorship and service to the American Bar Foundation.”
The ABF Award follows McCann’s selection this past summer as co-winner of the Law & Society Association 2023 Harry J. Kalven Prize. That award specifically recognizes "empirical scholarship that has contributed most effectively to the advancement of research in Law and Society."
These awards recognize contributions to research and public engagement on important sociolegal issues. In both cases, McCann's research on struggles for workers' rights and social justice, highlighted in his path-breaking books Rights at Work (Chicago, 1994) and Union by Law (Chicago, 2020, with George Lovell), were recognized as especially notable contributions.
