Congratulations to the graduates of the University of Washington School of Law Class of 2024!

On June 3, proud families, colleagues and friends gathered in Alaska Airlines Arena to recognize and celebrate the perseverance, hard work and accomplishments of 276 new alumni. The graduates received their Ph.D. in Law, Juris Doctorate (J.D.), Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) degrees.

In opening remarks to the 2024 Commencement ceremony, Dean Tamara F. Lawson said, “At UW Law, we train the whole person, and we want you to flourish with all your gifts as you leave Gates Hall. It might be bittersweet to leave these familiar surroundings, but you leave equipped with skills. … You haven’t done it alone and your community will continue to support you in the next chapter of your journey.”

Also taking the podium to give remarks, awards and remembrances were faculty, including Professor of Law Lisa Marshall Manheim, who gave the faculty address; student leaders; and the Honorable Richard A. Jones, J.D. ‘75, who gave the alumni address.

Dean Lawson reminded the graduates that they are “not just enhancing a profession but are joining a noble tradition of service,” saying, “Remember that the true measure of your success will not be found in billable hours or accolades, but in the lives you touch and the injustices you disrupt.”

As the Class of 2024 celebrated their achievements with their loved ones, the final charge remains: “Be bold, be fearless in your pursuit of truth and unwavering in your commitment to justice.”

The wider University of Washington commencement ceremony takes place on June 8.
