“Got a Minute?” with Jonah Haseley, 2L
We’re kicking off a new series this year called “Got a Minute?” These are fun, short-answer interviews that pepper students with 20 rapid-fire questions in a laid-back format. We’ll find students throughout William H. Gates Hall as they study, wait for class to start or hangout with their classmates.
This week’s “Got a Minute?” interview is with Jonah Haseley, 2L.
UW Law: What was the first class you ever took?
Jonah Haseley: Civil procedure.
UW Law: What was the first case you were cold called on, and how did it go?
JH: I think Mullaney, which was a case about notice in civil procedure, and I was overprepared for that, so it went pretty well.
UW Law: Who was the first classmate you met?
JH: I think Matthew Bellavia. That was before Orientation.
UW Law: Which professor would you want on your staff if you were to set up an operating government on the moon?
JH: I'll go with Monte Mills, because he understands property, and we're gonna have to figure out how that works, because we're on the moon now.
UW Law: What's your favorite doctrinal class?
JH: My favorite doctrinal class is probably civ pro.
UW Law: Which classroom is better 133 or 138?
JH: 138.
UW Law: If you had to pair up with a professor for karaoke, who would you pull up on stage with you?
JH: Professor Garavito.
UW Law: How many glass structures are in the courtyard?
JH: Three. Four. It should be three. Why is it four? It’s a W.
UW Law: Where's your favorite part of the library to hang out?
JH: I hang out on the upper level at the large tables.
UW Law: What's the best underutilized resource at UW Law for students?
JH: Well, the 2Ls and 3Ls already know about all of them. So, I would say the 1Ls should go to their Academic Success TA sessions.
UW Law: Name the first Latin legal term that comes to mind and what it means.
JH: In personam jurisdiction meaning just personal jurisdiction.
UW Law: Which class have you laughed the most in?
JH: Probably Administrative Law with Professor Manheim.
UW Law: Where's your favorite spot on the UW campus, excluding William H. Gates Hall?
JH: The area around William H. Gates Hall.
UW Law: Do you have a favorite courtroom drama TV show or movie?
JH: Yeah, probably Better Call Saul.
UW Law: Tell us something you learned in class that blew your mind.
JH: That you can own a color.
UW Law: What's your favorite time slot for a class?
JH: 10:30 to 12:20.
UW Law: Where's your favorite spot to get a bite of food nearby?
JH: Chili's, which is actually an Indian deli on the Ave, not Chili's the Mexican restaurant.
UW Law: If you could host a fireside chat with one professor on anything, who would it be and on what?
JH: Professor Ziff on why Chat GPT isn't gonna take our jobs.
UW Law: If you could work in-house anywhere where would it be?
JH: Microsoft.
UW Law: And finally, everyone has a favorite statute. What's yours?
JH: 42 U.S. Code section 1983. That's the civil rights one. It allows you to sue state governments for violating constitutional rights.
