UW Law: What was a 2024 highlight for you?

Veronica La Mont, 3L: In 2024, I went backpacking over the summer after my internship, and I got to backpack for about a month and a half, and that was really fun.

Fernando Mejia Ledesma, M.J. student: One of the things that I also do outside of school is I run a statewide coalition that focuses on expanding access to higher education with a focus on equity. And one of the things that we did last year, we passed a statewide legislation that expanded access to professional licensure for all immigrants, regardless of status.

Drew Carlson, 3L: Probably hanging out with a lot of my friends from law school class and chatting with them before class and hanging out with them after. Things like that.

Natasha Anis, 2L: A highlight for me was definitely my summer internship, which I spent helping workers across Washington State advocate for their rights and gain civil damages from companies that they worked for. It was a really great way to meet attorneys doing work that I really want to do, collaborate with other law students from around the country and get direct client experience.

Paige Maxa, 2L: A highlight for me from 2024 was being able to be a teaching assistant for my favorite 1L class, which was civil procedure.

UW Law: What are you looking forward to in 2025?

Claire Ommen, 3L: Well, barring the obvious answer of graduation, I'm currently participating in the Regulatory and Environmental Policy Clinic, and I'm working on a really cool project with some of my peers helping to prevent the installation of a golf course in a wetland. Land use is one of my primary areas of interest for after I graduate, and I'm really excited that UW has given me the opportunity to experience a little bit of that with my peers here in school, supervised, before I even graduate or take the bar.

Emmalee Johnson, 1L: One of the things I'm looking forward to in 2025 is starting my first 1L summer job and spending the summer in Seattle.

Razan Alsayegh, General Law LL.M. student: Well, I'm looking forward to taking the bar in July, hopefully, and then starting to search for a job in a law firm that deals with personal injury.

Matthew Martin, 1L: What am I looking forward to? I'm looking forward to the law prom, the Barristers Ball. I've heard it's going to be really fun, and I'm helping work on it right now. So, it’s in the planning stages and in, like, the fun enjoyment stages. I think it'll be a lot of fun.

Sam Giminiani, 3L: I have a baby due in one month, so I'm very much looking forward to meeting her.
