Focus on Faculty: Professor Evans in Connecticut Law Review
A large body of social science research shows that coercive encounters with police tend to diminish people’s trust in government, sense of citizenship, and political participation. In A Citizenship Model of the Fourth Amendment, Professor Danieli Evans advances a "citizenship model" for Fourth Amendment law: In deciding whether a search or seizure is "unreasonable" in violation of the Fourth Amendment, courts should consider the value of democratic citizenship, as well as values traditionally central to Fourth Amendment analysis, such as property interests and expectations of privacy.
