UW Law alumna Jessica Murphy Manca appointed to King County Superior Court

The University of Washington School of Law proudly recognizes alumna Jessica Murphy Manca, J.D. ‘09, on her appointment to the King County Superior Court. Governor Bob Ferguson announced the appointment on June 8, 2026. Manca will assume the judicial position on July 1, succeeding Judge Karen Donohue following her resignation.

Manca brings more than 15 years of experience in criminal law and public service to the bench. She currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, where she leads the office’s criminal civil rights efforts as Criminal Civil Rights Coordinator. In that capacity, she oversaw investigations involving hate crimes and criminal violations of constitutional rights. Throughout her federal service, Manca has handled a broad range of matters, including cybercrime, cyberstalking and financial crime prosecutions.

Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Manca spent ten years with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. There, she served as both a trial and appellate attorney, regularly appearing in superior and district courts throughout King County. Her work included the prosecution of hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases, as well as approximately 50 jury trials. In recognition of her accomplishments, she was promoted to Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in 2017.

Manca completed her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her J.D. degree with High Honors at UW Law. Earlier in her legal career, Manca gained judicial experience through clerkships and externships in the federal courts. She clerked for U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman of the District of Oregon and served as a judicial extern to U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik of the Western District of Washington.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Manca is dedicated to mentoring emerging lawyers and supporting youth programs in her community. She volunteers with organizations such as Seattle Central Little League and frequently participates in educational initiatives that introduce students to legal careers.
